Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Terminal Velocity AI ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with The Legal AI Academy — AI for South African Legal Practice (the "Course" or "Site"). We have written it with reference to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) of the Republic of South Africa and, where relevant, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Short version: This is a static educational website. We do not require an account, and we do not run a server-side database of learners. Your course progress is stored only in your own browser. We do not sell your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you store locally

The Course tracks your learning progress — such as modules visited, quiz results, flashcard review state, notes you type, and study streaks — using your browser's local storage on your own device. This information stays on your device, is not transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data.

1.2 Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically log standard technical data (such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and pages requested) for security, diagnostics, and to keep the Site running. This data is used in aggregate and is not used to identify you personally.

1.3 Information you provide voluntarily

If you contact us (for example, by email or through our website), we receive the information you choose to send, such as your name and email address, so that we can respond.

2. How We Use Information

  • To deliver and display the Course content and remember your progress on your device;
  • To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site;
  • To respond to enquiries and provide support;
  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

3. Cookies & Similar Technologies

The Course itself relies on browser local storage rather than tracking cookies for its core functionality. Our hosting provider or any embedded services may set strictly necessary cookies. You can control or delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings; disabling them may reset your saved progress.

4. Third-Party Services

Course media and learning artefacts (audio, video, infographics, slide decks, mind maps) were produced with assistance from third-party tools including Google NotebookLM and Anthropic Claude. Browsing the Site does not send your personal information to those tools. The Site may load a small number of open-source libraries; these are served to render content and are not used to profile you. This Site is hosted under the terminalvelocityai.tech domain and is subject to that host's technical logging described in section 1.2.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

Where POPIA or GDPR applies, we process personal information on the basis of your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time (see section 8).

6. Data Retention

Progress data persists in your browser until you clear it. Technical server logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security and operational purposes and are then deleted or anonymised.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable, appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect information under our control. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In South Africa, the relevant authority is the Information Regulator. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in section 11.

9. Children

The Course is intended for legal professionals and other adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
