These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of The Legal AI Academy — AI for South African Legal Practice (the "Course" or "Site"), provided by Terminal Velocity AI together with the Course's authors and contributors (collectively, the "Provider", "we", "us"). By accessing or using the Course, you ("you", "the User") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Course.
Important — not legal advice. The Course is educational content only. Nothing in it constitutes legal advice, and no attorney-client, solicitor-client, or professional advisory relationship is created by your use of it. Always obtain advice from a suitably qualified, admitted legal practitioner for your specific circumstances.
The Course is provided for general information, professional development, and educational purposes. It discusses artificial intelligence in the context of South African legal practice at a general level. It is not a substitute for independent professional judgment, formal legal training, regulatory guidance, or advice tailored to a particular matter, client, firm, or jurisdiction.
Use of the Course does not create any attorney-client, fiduciary, or other professional relationship between you and the Provider. Any decisions you make in reliance on the Course are your own. You remain solely responsible for your professional conduct, your compliance with the rules of your regulator (including, in South Africa, the Legal Practice Council), your ethical obligations, and any applicable law.
Portions of the Course — including written lessons, audio, video, infographics, slide decks, quizzes, flashcards, and mind maps — were created with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools. AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or "hallucinations". We make no representation that the Course is accurate, complete, current, or free from error. You must independently verify any information before relying on it, and you acknowledge that law, regulation, and technology change over time.
The Course is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Course will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any content is correct or reliable.
You use the Course entirely at your own risk. You are responsible for evaluating the suitability of any information, technique, tool, or approach discussed, and for the consequences of applying it in your practice or business.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Provider — including Terminal Velocity AI and the Course's authors, contributors, officers, employees, and agents — shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, clients, or professional standing, arising out of or in connection with your access to, use of, or inability to use the Course, whether based in contract, delict, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, the Provider's total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Course shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you actually paid, if any, to access the Course, or (b) ZAR 0.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Provider — including Terminal Velocity AI and the Course's creators, authors, contributors, licensors, officers, employees, and agents — from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, proceedings, liabilities, damages, losses, penalties, fines, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees and disbursements on an attorney-and-own-client scale) arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of, or reliance on, the Course; (b) your application of any information, method, or tool referenced in the Course; (c) your breach of these Terms; (d) your violation of any law, regulation, or professional or ethical rule; or (e) any claim by a third party (including any client of yours) relating to the foregoing.
This indemnity survives termination of these Terms and your use of the Course.
You acknowledge that you are solely responsible for meeting your own professional, regulatory, and ethical duties, including duties of competence, confidentiality, supervision of technology, protection of client information, and candour to courts and clients. Any use of AI tools in your practice must comply with those duties and with applicable law; the Course does not relieve you of them.
The Course and its content are owned by or licensed to Terminal Velocity AI and are protected by intellectual-property laws. You may access the Course for your own personal, non-commercial professional development. You may not reproduce, redistribute, resell, sublicense, or create derivative works from the Course without our prior written permission, except as permitted by law.
The Course may reference or link to third-party products, services, or websites (including AI tools). Such references are for information only and do not constitute endorsement. We are not responsible for third-party content, terms, pricing, availability, or practices, and your dealings with any third party are solely between you and that third party.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to any non-waivable rights you may have, you agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts in respect of any dispute arising out of or relating to the Course or these Terms.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
We may modify these Terms at any time by posting the revised version and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Course after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
